Testimonials - Teaching and Direction
“John Wilkerson is an incredibly gifted actor and director, with Broadway experience. He is also a man of integrity. I have been blessed to work with him. Young actors will have an incomparable experience under his direction.
- Taffy Geisel, Director, B.S/M.A. - Baylor
“Margaret Wilkerson is an outstanding vocal instructor and we are so lucky to have her here in the Dallas area. Our daughter’s first voice teacher was popular, but had her singing songs outside of her range and was teaching her very little technique. He seemed to know nothing about the voice, encouraged straining, and couldn’t help her with problems that even I knew the answers to. Being in the arts ourselves, my husband and I were aware of the dangers of vocal damage from bad instruction. We met Margaret at TXMTW (University of Texas related event) and my husband recognized her from the Broadway tour of Kiss Me Kate that he had played for when in the Dallas Summer Musicals band. We jumped at the chance to have her teach our daughter.
Michelle learned more in the first 10 minutes of her lesson than she had learned in over a year with her previous teacher. My husband and I have had the opportunity to work with Margaret as our daughter’s instructor and in a professional capacity as well. She is the consummate professional, knows her craft thoroughly, knows the business of musical theatre and imparts her knowledge with honesty and integrity. My daughter has developed as a singer and is now working as a dancer/singer/actor. She still takes lessons and coaching sessions from Margaret on a regular basis.”
- Jennifer Dulin, Dir. Texas Youth Ballet
“I'm thankful that once again John Wilkerson trusted me to be able to do something that I didn't quite believe in myself to do and then provided the direction for me to be able to do it.”
- Rachel Massey, choir director, singer/actor
“(John) One of my favorite most cherished memories came from your inspiration and direction. Thank you!”
- Meredith Miller Higgins, singer/actor, NY
“So proud of my sweet Gabriella Moore at her voice recital, she was once a little mouse who didn't want to be on stage to now singing and acting and blossoming into a beautiful performer.”
- Elsa Madrid, mother of student
“Thank you for helping me overcome my fears, finding my voice, and fulfill my dreams. I owe a lot to your guidance. “
-Brendon Ramsey, singer/actor
“I've learned more from John Wilkerson about the art of theatre than I can express. I take notes every time he opens his mouth. I promise you I am a better actor because I have sat under his teaching. I'm a better director because I've watched the way he loves his actors. I'm a better leader because I have seen the way he leads a cast and crew. Trust me-you want your students learning everything theycan from him, not just about acting, but about a million other things more important than anything they will ever do on stage.
-Rian Slay, Director/Educator,
“This being my first show in some ten years, coupled with not being cast in the part I wanted, made me have much trepidation as I began this journey. John said, "Hey, Pickering is funny." I never really thought he was and he challenged me to find the funny. In doing so and trying to find Pickering's 'voice' made me think like an actor, instead of somebody just rehashing something he's already done. For that John, I thank you. - Richard Buswold, actor
"Playing Henry Higgins, one of the richest musical theater roles ever written, under the expert direction of Broadway veteran John Wilkerson, was well worth the trade-off of not getting paid," Stan said. "I would be open to doing a great role under a great director for no pay again, but I won't actively seek it out like my working in professional theater." - Stan Graner, actor/singer
"Beauty and the Beast is a huge undertaking with costumes, choreography, and of course to find vocal talent that can withstand the constant action within the musical. Artisan Center Theater under the direction of John Wilkerson, hit the mark on all of these elements and so much more." - Angela Newby, Assoc. Critic for John Garcia's THE COLUMN
